Nomad-Chic: Dispatch from Hong Kong

Hong Kong is obsessed with all things new and glamorous. Designer labels. Technology. Even condominiums. But me? I’m a thrift store junkie. I’ll rummage through things till my hands feel grainy and smell of copper. Maybe that’s why I live near Cat Street in Hong Kong, where pocket-sized shops are stuffed from floor to ceiling with great finds as long as you have a bit of patience. From vintage girlie magazines to Mao paraphernalia, snuff bottles to desk lighters. My latest buys? My first jade bracelet (and white jade, at that), old hotel matchbooks and an antique good luck scroll roller. Call me sentimental (and superstitious), if you will.
